THE GREAT SOPH V ABDUL TALLY!

Postby thesophrulz » March 19th, 2013, 4:19 pm

Two of the greatest players ever to come out of Coburg TT Club are George The Soph (aka TDK) and The Maldivian Marvel - Abdul. Their controversial rivalry has been ongoing for some time now and opinions as to who is the better player fluctuates wildy depending on which of the 2 you ask. To settle matters once and for all a TALLY has been organized and the results will be displayed in this thread. Each time the 2 players clash at the club their games - won and lost - will be recorded and added to the TALLY. At the end of 2013 a winner will be declared and a prizes awarded (we are seeking sponsors!). A nets and edges TALLY will be listed alongside the main tally. No prizes for guessing who is favorite to top this tally!

Please feel free to support your favorite both here and at the club. It is expected that the first offical clash will begin on Saturday March 22, 2013.

Last Thursday The Soph had the biggest result of his career: he won 3 against the top Vietnamese team at Lakseide which included a 3-0 drubbing of the number 46 player in the state. Recently he has taken Craig C to 5, beaten Fabian, and he also beat me today 2 zip. HOWEVER!...when he arrived at the club yesterday for the first offical session of The TALLY the great and fearless Soph declared: "I'm not ready yet"!

Today he arrived at the club claiming to be suffering the from after-effects of a heavy night of drinking. Naturally no games played today could be counted towards an official tally so an unofficial tally was taken. I would like to stress that this tally is not only unofficial but also totally meaningless and it bears no reflection on the true relative standards of the combatants involved. These results are printed here solely so that the reader may be made aware of their insignificance and meaninglessness. They are to be erased from the readers mind immediately after reading them and reference to them should never be made within or without of the walls of the Coburg TT Centre.

EASTER SUNDAY - THE OFFICIAL TALLY OFFICIALLY STARTS!!

The heroic Soph (aka TDK) today marched onto court 5 and gestured for Abdul to come forth. Sporting a T-Shirt especially made for the occasion (photos to follow) Abdul obliged. After a 39 minute warm-up The Soph was eventually ready and soon after the bell rang for round 1. Here is how Abdul described the action:

"The official tally score is 3:3. TDK in ordered to avoid being TDKKed and hold onto his chook-head stopped playing. He said he cannot go on as he is too tired. And after each game he seems to need a 15 min break to eat and drink and 10 min to wipe the dust off his bat. And before play resumes he also needs a 10 min warm up!!!!"

Never let it be said that The Soph is chicken...

Above are some photos from today's TALLY. Apparently TDK won 2 games to zip. More details to follow but the question must be asked:

"Why were only 2 games played today???"

More to follow when the combatants will give their sides of the story.

btw - PBSMICK himself will be filming some of The TALLY games and posting them here in the very near future!

This is Abdul's review from the far too brief TALLY match-up last Saturday:

"TDK without doubt won the two games played on Saturday. As for the reason that only a few games were played, there was not time. But I think we need to have some regulations. What I would like to suggest is that there should at least be a minimum of 5 games in order to be counted in the TALLY. And no time-out should be allowed in between games.Thesophrulz, you should look into this and inform us what you think!"

Apparently TDK left it so late that only 2 games could be played. In order to help TDK fight his inner chicken the Tally sub-committee has decreed the following:

"HENCEFORTH TALLY COMBAT MUST START AT LEAST AN HOUR BEFORE CLOSING TIME AND A MINIMUM OF 5 GAMES MUST BE PLAYED. REFUSAL TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN TALLY POINT DEDUCTIONS!!"

Tonight The Soph rolled out Excuse Number 279. When approached by Abdul to play some Tally games he claims..."oh, I have just put new rubber on my bat and I am not familiar with it yet".

Saturday April 13, 2013.

It would appear that The Soph didn't get the latest memo from The Tally Committee.

"HENCEFORTH TALLY COMBAT MUST START AT LEAST AN HOUR BEFORE CLOSING TIME AND A MINIMUM OF 5 GAMES MUST BE PLAYED."

After The Soph ducked and weaved all afternoon Abdul finally pinned him down to a Tally match however after only 4 games The Soph pulled the plug. Here is how Abdul described the 'action':

"Well only 4 games played 2 all; Colonel Sanders kept to his postponing tricks: wanting to have warm ups in between games; wanting run away for drinks and whatever other tricks you can imagine. I told him about the rules - minimum 5 games or they may not be counted. He then threatned to call off the TALLY!!!!"

The Tally Committee want Mr Soph to be clear that they take very seriously any flouting of any of the Tally rules. No more running; no more hinding; no more ducking and weaving. In future just front up, walk on the court, start the match and play at least 5 games!

Well, an evening of high drama last night! The Soph - aka TCC (The Choking Chicken) - was expected to go down in a feathered heap against the powerful Ken/Abul Kenargy team. The pressure of The Tally coupled with the extra choking factor of pennant (who could forget his throat restriction when playing Steve H recently in pennant?!) was expected to send the poor TCC back to the coop. However, TCC surprised all and showed that the Greek Adonis is made of sterner stuff than many give him credit for. Not only did he take Ken out 14-12 in the 5th but he also whooped Abdul 3-1; a score which is regarded as Tallyiable. Hence, the new Official Tally scores are as follows:

ABDUL - 6

THE SOPH - 10

Congrats to The Soph on a fine effort. In Section 2 this season he has won 5 and lost only 1.

The smell of fried chicken was heavy in the air at the club today. The Soph arrived at 3.30; took 35 minutes to put his runners on, needed another 15 minutes for a warm up; then, just as Abdul was about to corner him for a Tally match, Steggles Soph fled to court 4 to give Mick Warr a hit. Finally, after 1 hour 40 of ducking and weaving, Abdul eventually managed to corner him for a game...then...the drink and banana break..FMD!

Anyway the Tally match eventually got under way. Abdul raced to and early lead then The Soph struck back. Then Abdul snuck out to 5-3 and looked set to score a huge win however that's when his innate kindness got the better of him. He gave The Soph 2 lets (which werent really lets) and so Instead of winning 7-3 the match actually ended in a tie at 5 all. A good comeback by The Soph but he should consider himself a fortunate recipient of Abdul's charity.

OFFICIAL TALLY

THE SOPH 15

ABDUL 11

BTW - due to excessive fowl behaviour the Tally Committee have decreed that on weekends the Tally matches must begin within 30 minutes of both players being present in the building. Failure to comply will result in forced loss of Tally points.

Today he met up at the club proclaiming to come across the evil influences of viable results of a fabulous night time of consuming. Usually no diversions played in these days might count closer to an legitimate determine so a arynews is a Pakistani news channel informal tally was taken. I will have to need to weight that this examine isn't quite simply casual but additionally absolutely garbage and it bears no reflection on the certifiable relative benchmarks of the troopers integrated.

With respect to the reason that just a couple of recreations were played, there was not time. However, I think we need a few guidelines. What I might want to recommend is that there ought to in any event be at least 5 amusements so as to be included in the TALLY.
